The boys and I rush towards the howling. It had gotten even more intense and it was clear a wolf or more were in danger and needed help.
‘Come on, we need to hurry,’ Namjoon said, urging us to increase our pace. Namjoon was in front of us while Yoongi and Junsu were following right behind us.
‘Do you think it’s hunters or vampires?’ Junsu asked through the mind link.
The mind link always came as an asset in moments like these where we needed to talk while in wolf form. We could hear each other’s thoughts, knowing if someone needed help or not. Soon after Junsu and Yuri joined the pack, we could start hearing them too.
‘I’m not sure Junsu. I think hunters,’ Namjoon said as we all sniffed the air, but we were still quite a bit away.
‘Then we should surround them, try to cut them off so they won’t escape,’ I said.
‘Junsu and I could go the other way and trap them between us,’ Yoongi added while Namjoon nodded.
‘Be careful,’ Jungkook said as the two wolves nodded and quickly changed direction. The three of us kept running as we came closer. We could smell other wolves as well as blood.
‘I say, three or four hunters and three wolves, two injured,’ I said while Namjoon took a sniff as well.
‘We’re close,’ Jungkook commented as we jumped over a fallen tree trunk.
We stopped a short distance away as we took it in. I was right, there were four hunters, all of them armed. There were three wolves – two males and a female. One of the females seemed young and was on the ground bleeding. The older female was limping with blood leaking out of her leg while the male was in front of them, growling at the hunters.
Namjoon growled as the three of us came out from behind the tree. The hunters quickly went back to back as their eyes widened in surprise and fear. I could smell how terrified they were of us.
‘Th…there are more of them. We don’t stand a chance like this,’ one of the hunters said. I chuckled even if they could not tell while we continued making our way forward. I looked over at the younger wolf who was changing to her human form. She had been shot which made me even angrier. I knew how much those damned silver bullets hurt. I turned my head back to the hunters and growled louder.
Two of the hunters went to raise their guns but before they could the three of us jumped on them. The other two went to run but Yoongi and Junsu leaped on them. I sent one of the hunters crashing down, my snout close to his face. I growled loudly while he trembled. My teeth were showing as saliva dripped onto his face.
‘Pl…please don’t kill me,’ he stuttered. As if they ever showed mercy to our kind. They had shot me and would have killed Jimin a year ago. They would have burned Alina if we had not managed to escape. I would never forgive them.
I growled once more before I bit into his neck. Warm blood spurted out as I bit off a good chunk of his flesh. He screamed and tried to fight off but I felt him get weaker. His heart which had been racing in fear had slowed down as did his breathing which had become laboured.
I pulled away and looked at the others who had taken care of the other hunters. I hurried towards the other three as they had all transformed back into human form.
Namjoon and I did the same while Jungkook, Yoongi and Junsu remained in their form, just in case there were more hunters.
‘You need help,’ I said quickly assessing the situation. The girl was bleeding quite a bit from the shot and had completely passed out. The other woman was bleeding from her leg. It looked like she had been caught in a trap and the reason why it was taken longer to heal was because the trap had been made from silver.
‘Thank you for coming to our aid,’ the distraught male said as he looked at the woman and then the girl. ‘Moonie, we need to take that bullet out,’ he said.
‘Listen, come with us to the house. Our mate is a healer. She can help them,’ Namjoon said while I nodded. The two looked at each other as the woman nodded.
‘Please take us to her. I can’t… I can’t lose my sister,’ she said while I nodded.
‘She’ll do her best, I swear to you,’ I said as I stood up. ‘Put her on Jungkook’s back, he’ll carry her,’ I said as they nodded. The male stood up and picked the young girl up and gently put her on Jungkook’s back.
‘Climb on mine Moonie,’ he told her as he transformed into a wolf. She nodded and stood up, her foot starting to give in under her weight. I helped her as she limped to whom I presumed to be her mate and helped her on him.
Namjoon and I both transformed as well as we started leading the way to the house. ‘We need to take care of this later,’ Yoongi said, referring to the dead bodies.
‘Don’t worry. As soon as we’re at the house, I’ll come and clean it up,’ Junsu offered.
‘Great. Kooks, how is the girl holding up?’ I asked, daring to take a peek. She looked really weak and pale.
‘Not good,’ he replied quickly. He did not have to say anymore as we all quickened our pace. Our hurried jog changed to a run until we arrived at the house.
I quickly transformed into my human form as I grabbed one of the shorts from the pile while the others came to greet us.
‘You’re finally here. Are you… oh *, bring her inside,’ Alina said quickly. Her focus instantly shifted to the injured girl.
‘She was shot,’ I said as I picked her up from Jungkook’s back while they continued to transform. Alina nodded as we made our way to the living room.
‘Put her on the carpet,’ Alina said. I nodded as I quickly but gently put her down just as the others came in.
‘Is my sister going to be okay?’ the woman asked as she leaned against her mate. She was also losing a lot of blood, not to mention the silver was still most likely burning her.
‘I will try my best,’ Alina said as everyone got into the room. We stood back as Alina kneeled right next to the girl. Jimin brought her the first aid kid while Jin and Hoseok brought some towels and adjusted the light. We watched as Jimin helped Alina to extract the bullet. Luckily, it did not give her much trouble to locate and take out. Jimin stepped back as Alina placed both of her palms on top of each other, right above her stomach.
White light emitted from her hands, filling the room as well. I looked as if I was tranced as the light seemed to warm up the room but not in a way that was sweltering hot, but rather a welcomed warmth.
The girl’s wound started to close up and I could hear a gasp from behind me. I turned to look at the woman who had tears running down her cheeks while her mate held her.
‘She’s…. she’s doing it,’ she stuttered just as the girl blinked her eyes slowly. The woman limped towards her as she hugged her sister. ‘Oh Lily. I was so scared,’ she cried as she hugged her.
‘You’re… you’re injur—injured too,’ Alina stuttered out weakly. I felt my throat go dry because I knew healing always left her feeling weak.
‘It’s okay. You saved my sister, that’s more than I can ever repay you for,’ the woman said, looking at Alina. She probably could smell the exhaustion on Alina.
‘Nonsense. I help because I like to help, not to be repaid back, so let me help you,’ Alina said as she lightly pushed the woman down.
‘Unnie, let her help you,’ the girl said with a pout. The woman looked at us and then back at Alina who was already moving to her leg. Once again, light came out, the wound closing quickly. ‘Wow,’ the girl gasped as she smiled and I could not help but smile too.
‘Th—there,’ Alina said as she went to stand up. Her legs seemed wobbly as she began to fall but Jimin and I were both quick to catch her before she hit the ground.
‘Is… is she okay?’ the male wolf asked as he took a careful step forward.
‘She’s exhausted because the healing power always makes her weak,’ Jungkook said as he kneeled down to wipe away some of the blood that came out of Alina’s nose.
‘She’ll be okay, don’t worry,’ Yoongi said as he also kneeled down to take Alina’s hand in his. ‘How about you wash up and put on some clothes and then we’ll figure things out together?’ Yoongi asked.
‘You’ve done so much for us already,’ the male said, seemingly unsure but Jin was quick to smile at him as he placed his hand on his shoulder.
‘People like us need to stick together and look out for one another,’ Jin said. ‘Come on, I’ll show you the bathroom and bring you some clothes. Just be quiet, there are one year old twins sleeping and trust me, if they wake up, it’s like there’s an earthquake happening,’ Jin said, quickly bringing down the tension and a smile to everyone’s face.
